2018 Gladstone Creative Retreat October 16 – 20.

For those who have visited recently, you may have noticed the swell of creative businesses and studios expanding in Gladstone, a tiny tourist village nestled on the banks of the Macleay River.

Not only are they a creative bunch, but they’re collaborative, working together to make Gladstone a destination to visit, explore and to be inspired by.

Seven local creatives and five local businesses have joined forces to host the inaugural 2018 Gladstone Creative Retreat -October 16 – 20.

The Retreat offers classes in an array of interests -everything from cooking to resin pouring, photography to watercolour painting, furniture upcycling and acrylic art. Attendees will also get to experience the best of the local food scene with lunch and dinners scheduled at each of the restaurants in town, they can re-charge with Yoga and wellness sessions, and will be shuttled out to South West Rocks for dinner and a movie.

Launched in July this year, the aim of the Retreat is to give people an opportunity to try a range of creative expressions in a relaxed and fun setting.

“We’re overwhelmed at the response so far. We’ve had a mix of locals and people from across NSW register their interest… it’s going to feel more like a festival than a retreat,” says Angela Sammut, organiser and owner of the Organised Chaos Emporium in Gladstone.

The first of seven classes included in the retreat is in cooking, followed by a welcome dinner held in the Macleay Valley Community Art Gallery. It will be a great way to kick off the weeks activities, and for all the participants to meet each other and the instructors.

“It is such a great initiative to be a part of. Working with other artists, makers and local businesses is really rewarding. We’re all excited to showcase how wonderful and vibrant our little village is, just as much as our own studios,” says Elizabeth Macdonald.

7 creative workshops over five fun days, that’s how the 2018 Gladstone Creative Retreat is being promoted. Early bird tickets are available until August 30.
