There is increasing research and data on the growth of cultural tourism worldwide and its is also becoming more evident how important it is on the Mid North Coast. No better example exists than the Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail which showcases the skills and vision of dozens of mid north coast artists responsible for many of the 50 plus Koalas. Hello Koalas is a finalist in the NSW Tourism Awards and looking at the list of finalists in its category of New Tourism Business it is the only cultural business to make the finals.
Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail is now Number 3 of the top things to do in Port Macquarie on the respected review site, Trip Advisor. That list also highlights the growing importance of arts, culture and heritage to the industry with five of the top 20 attractions in Port Macquarie being cultural tourism experiences. In the Manning Valley it is even more significant with five of the top ten activities being cultural tourism experiences.
Arts Mid North Coast RADO, Kevin Williams, has been invited to present on the increasing role of cultural tourism at the Regional Stakeholders Meeting organised by Museums & Galleries NSW to be held at the Museum of Applied Arts and Science (the former Powerhouse) in November.
