Local couple Jenny and Roger Gifkins will hold their Creative Obsessions exhibition at the Gladstone Community Gallery from March 15 to April 2.
Showcasing Jenny’s Japanese textiles and Roger’s woodwork and Astrophotography, the official opening is 4pm on Saturday March 17.
A number of Roger’s pieces in the exhibition feature timber from their Belmore river property that they planted as seedlings. This gives Roger a special connection to the timber he works with.
Jenny’s work for this exhibition has a distinctly Japanese flavour, using prints in cotton and silk, hand-dyed fabrics and even some recycled from old Japanese clothing. Some fabrics are rust-dyed and some dyed using shibori techniques. She also incorporates embroidery, applique, paper-piecing, meshwork and quilting.
Roger’s other obsession is Astrophotography with numerous framed prints of Galaxies and Nebula on show.
Gallery open 10:30am to 4pm Wednesday to Sunday plus Easter Monday.
FREE entry, Contact the gallery on 6567 5092 or Roger on 0428 674 312.
