The Kempsey Riverside Market was another resounding success last weekend, with the community continuing to get behind this great initiative hosted in partnership with the Kempsey & District Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Kempsey TAFE, and Midwaste.
The markets committee have introduced a ‘Market Day Specials’ voucher, enabling local businesses to advertise specials, which are then passed out to market shoppers. “We were really pleased with the take up of this offer”, Chamber secretary Ms Tania Powick, said. “The markets initiative was always focused on bringing people into town and encouraging them to shop locally, so the more local businesses who want to be involved, the more everyone will benefit”. Any business who missed out this month is encouraged to contact the committee at firstname.lastname@example.org to get their market day special into the public eye. Get in quickly, as spaces are limited.
Numbers continue to swell, and the size of the markets has surpassed expectations, with February having the largest number of stalls to date. The diverse variety of products seems to be one of the drawcards. “Our tagline has always been Quality, Taste & Design”, Ms Powick explained. “We want to keep making this a unique shopping experience for the market goers and have them thinking of Kempsey as a great shopping destination”. With the popularity and size of the markets, comes a great deal of behind the scenes work every month. “The markets wouldn’t operate without the volunteer’s, and it would be great to have more people get involved”, Ms Powick said. “There are lots of little jobs, so if anyone is interested in helping out on the Friday afternoon, or the Saturday of the markets, we’d love to hear from you. It’s a fun atmosphere, working with a great, positive group of people, as well as a fantastic way to help this successful community event, and doesn’t take a huge time commitment.” For an idea of what you could do to be involved, call Jodie, the market co-ordinator, on 0456 658 979.
The market committee are actively engaging with other organisations to maximise the value of the event to the community. The next market on 1st March 2014, will be held in conjunction with the Macleay Landcare Tree Fair, already a popular event in the valley. The market on 5th April 2014 will be held in conjunction with the annual Youth Week operated by the Macleay Valley Youth Advisory Council and Kempsey Shire Council, so will be one not to miss, with lots of fun & music on offer.
