Welcome from the Mayor

Welcome from the Mayor

“As a business operator and long-term local who has been privileged to have travelled to many parts of Australia as well as internationally, I am extremely excited by the future I see for the Macleay Valley and the Mid North Coast Region.

Apart from its undisputed scenic beauty – rugged mountain ranges, deep-flowing rivers, fertile floodplains and stunning coastline, to name a few – the Macleay Valley enjoys an excellent strategic location approximately mid-way between the lucrative markets of Sydney and Brisbane.

This location, combined with close and convenient access to the newly upgraded Pacific Highway, is a major attraction for business and industry seeking to combine quality lifestyle with commercial competitive advantage.

History demonstrates, and time will continue to prove, that the Macleay Valley is a region that knows how to do business, and do it well.

Kempsey is not only home to the iconic Akubra Hats manufacturing plant, but to many other successful and innovative companies, including Nestlé, Australian Solar Timbers, Eversons Food Processing, Australian Architectural Timbers, DGI International, Macleay Valley Transport and numerous others too many to name.

In fact, Kempsey achieved the highest growth rate (7.5%) of Gross Regional Product on the Mid North Coast during the 12 months to June 2011, rising from $1.058 to $1.137 billion. What the figures don’t reveal, however, is the powerful sense of community that exists in the Macleay Valley. It is our people that make doing business here such a pleasure and a privilege.

And it is my added privilege to be leading an organization that is committed to providing our business community with the best service possible.”
