24 Hours in Crescent Head

Crescent Head is a village characterised by the rich surfing culture that runs deep in its veins. While it may be easy-going and shoes are optional, this surf-soaked town is anything but sleepy. Prepare to be happily surprised by its many tasty cafes, coastal-chic boutiques and, of course, the near-perfect waves the village is famous for.

Surf Check at The Point

Grab a coffee from the Blackfish Café (it opens at 6am – surfer’s time) and make haste to the Crescent Head Point Surfing Reserve to check the waves. If you’re a beginner or want to brush up on your skills, surf lessons can be organised through On Point Surf School, Crescent Head Learn to Surf or the nearby Surfaris Surf Camp. Head out early before the crowds descend. If you’re not into surfing, follow the path along the point to walk up Little Nobby or walk along the edge of the golf course to ascend Big Nobby for panoramic views across the ocean. In season, you’ll likely see whales peacefully heading along the coastline with their calves.

Eat + Shop

Enjoy a post-surf smoothie and healthy breakfast from The Green Room or treat yourself to one of the best pies (and vanilla slices and doughnuts and…) on the Mid North Coast at the award-winning Barnetts Bakery. Even if you don’t normally go for bakery treats, this one is a must! Wander the main street at your leisure, poking your head into local boutiques Kahana & Moku, Cheetah Five, Beach Life Crescent Head and the Crescent Head Surf Co, which all offer their own unique take on the surfing culture of Crescent Head.

Seriously Scenic Golf

Whether you’re a social golfer or a seasoned professional, playing the six-hole course at the Crescent Head Country Club is a great casual day out with your mates. With sweeping views of the coast and beautifully manicured grounds, don’t be surprised if you’re a little too distracted to play your best golf!

Explore the Back Beaches

Tackle Point Plomer Road to discover some of the most spectacular beaches on the coast – many of which you’ll have all to yourself. We recommend making stops at Racecourse Beach and Big Hill, where you can follow the lush 300m walking trail through the rainforest. If you’re into snorkeling or surfing or simply want to experience a pristine and uncrowded beach, Delicate Nobby is also worth a visit. The road leads to Point Plomer, a postcard worthy destination that attracts hordes of campers during the warmer months who come to fish, surf and relax in its turquoise waters.

Surfside Dinner

Wash the salt out of your hair, don your Sunday best and head out for a three-course meal at Lumah or a casual bite at the Crescent Head Tavern.
