Dive in the World famous Fish Rock cave

Visitors from all over the world flock to Fish Rock Cave, which is touted as the only true ocean cave dive in Australia. The cave runs for 125-metres through the unique eco-system of Fish Rock, where you’ll meet resident black cod, wobbegong sharks, black rays, giant cuttlefishes and plentiful grey nurse sharks. There are also excellent dive sites at Green Island, a grey nurse critical habitat where you can also spot large rays and turtles, and Black Rock, another beautiful dive spot teeming with life. Snorkelling

Snorkelling at Hat Head. The deep, clear waters of Korogoro Creek at high tide offer the perfect opportunity for the whole family to enjoy a snorkeling expedition at high tide. Pack your snorkel kit and keep your eyes peeled for the reclusive octopus and marvel at the many varieties of tropical fish that abound. Experienced snorkelers can venture out of the creek and around the headland to spot wobbegong sharks.

Swimming

Spend the day in the calm waters of Trial Bay or Horseshoe Bay, ideal spots to set up on the beach with the kids and spend a sun-soaked day swimming in the safety of its waters.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Local operators SWR SUP offer tours  and paddleboard hire at the beautiful Back Creek in South West Rocks. Back Creek is a calm, flat water creek whose extraordinarily clear water makes it perfect for spotting many different types of marine life whilst paddling. Keep a lookout for blue spotted lagoon rays, large schools of bream or flathead hiding in the sand. The SUP’s are large and stable, making them suitable for beginners.

Surfing

Surfing at the Crescent Head Point or Point Plomer. Pop the longboard on top of the car and journey to Crescent Head for some of the longest rides of your life. Afterwards, soak up the vibes by watching the surf under the picturesque pandanus trees that line this famous break. There are a few learn to surf schools you can book with;

Kayak & canoe the waterways

Hire a single or double kayak and explore the Macleay River at Stuarts Point. Pick up your kayak at Stuarts Point Holiday Park and take pleasure in paddling down the river, taking in the tranquil scenery and range of wildlife.  Or if you happen to possess your own canoe or kayak, the possibilities for adventures in our waterways are endless.

Paddle the Macleay River, beginning in Kempsey, and explore its long pools and gentle rapids as you take in the spectacular pastoral scenery. Wildlife along the river is abundant, so keep your eye out for azure kingfishers, different species of waterfowl, turtles and carpet snakes.
